July & Nature Trust – FEE Malta: A Month of Conservation, Sustainability, and Action

July is a month of vibrancy and adventure. With summer in full swing, we are drawn to Malta’s stunning beaches, lush countryside, and crystal-clear waters. But as we enjoy nature’s beauty, we must also remember our responsibility to protect it for future generations.

This is why Nature Trust – FEE Malta is the perfect organisation to feature in the Colours of Malta 2025 Calendar this July. As one of Malta’s leading environmental organisations, Nature Trust works tirelessly to safeguard wildlife, preserve natural habitats, and promote sustainability. Their efforts ensure that Malta’s environment remains a treasure, not just for us, but for the generations to come.

Protecting Malta’s Natural Heritage

Malta’s environment faces constant threats, from coastal erosion and habitat destruction to marine pollution and climate change. Nature Trust – FEE Malta is at the forefront of the fight to preserve our islands’ unique ecosystems through:

Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation – Providing rescue, emergency care and rehab to all local wildlife except birds – injured, dehydrated and sick sea turtles, hedgehogs, bats, snakes, dolphins and other wildlife in distress, also managing a Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

Marine Conservation – Monitoring and protecting sea turtle nests on local beaches, raising awareness about single use items and plastic pollution, protecting marine habitats, organising beach cleanup and educational sessions.

Nature Site Management – managing sites, removing invasive alien species,  organising tree planting and protecting and monitoring sites including: Wied Ghollieqa, Pembroke Natura 2000, Il-Magħluq ta’ Marsaxlokk,  Il-Ballut ta’ Marsaskala, Wied il-Fiddien, Xrobb l-Għaġin Park and Cirkewwa Marine Park.

Sustainable Development Advocacy – Campaigning for stronger environmental policies and protecting Malta’s natural landscapes from overdevelopment.

Eco-Education – Managing the FEE programmes in Malta:  Eco-Schools, Young Reporters for the Environment, Learning about Ecosystems and Forests,  Blue Flag Beaches and Marinas, Green Key Hotels.  The first three programmes are aimed at empowering and inspiring younger generations to become active environmental sustainability stewards.

The Colour of Nature and Sustainability

Each month in the Colours of Malta Calendar is represented by a colour that reflects the essence of the featured foundation. July’s colour is turquoise, symbolising the deep blue of our seas, the green of our landscapes, and the delicate balance of Malta’s natural world.

Turquoise represents the interconnectedness of all life, the urgency of environmental action, and the hope that, with care and commitment, we can protect and restore Malta’s fragile ecosystems.

By featuring Nature Trust – FEE Malta this July, we highlight the importance of conservation, sustainability, and taking responsibility for our environment.
