Many of our customers will know Raymond Attard well. Raymond’s father, Joseph Attard set up “Gozo Blocks” in 1972, the forerunner of the company now known as R A & Sons Manufacturing Ltd.
Joseph was a builder, as were his predecessors (Father and Grandfather). In the 1970’s no-one on Gozo was producing bricks and so Joseph saw a gap in the market. At this point Joseph began talks with Joe Fenek, the owner of Blokrete – Manufacturers of Blocks in Malta to discuss the existing opportunity. Joe Fenek encouraged Joseph to be the first manufacturer of bricks on Gozo.
Joseph then bought an identical brick machine to the one Blokrete used and borrowed their molds. Raymond still has memories of accompanying his father to collect the molds every few months.
Things were not easy at first as the bricks did not sell, but perseverance, time and determination paid off. R. A & Sons Manufacturing Ltd today, is a thriving successful business.

ABRIDGED HISTORY
1972 – Joseph Attard opens Gozo Blocks
1983 – Company name changes to JCR and now produces other products. Imports started; first Sika container imported
1985 – Malta Branch of JCR opens
1994 – JCR Malta changes location
2000 – An important year as the Gozo factory is developed

2005 – New Brick Machine and Mixers purchased
2007 – Big Celebration 25 years ceremony!
2011 – Discussions and planning to divide the company between Raymond and his brother Carmel (Gozo/Malta).
2012 – The development and selling of Bagged products and Paints commenced
2012 – October the 31st – R A & Sons Manufacturing Ltd was created 2013 – The Malta branch including both Office and Warehouse at its current location at Hard Rocks Industrial site was opened.
